Chrysalis is the growth stage between caterpillars and butterflies. This symbolizes that through dying to self, Christ can transform us into new beings and something beautiful. We must open ourselves to Jesus for this transformation to occur. It is also a time of maturing faith.
Chrysalis has its roots deeply planted in the "Walk to Emmaus". It is a three-day spiritual renewal event that provides participants with an opportunity to learn more about faith, to experience Christian love and support, and to make new commitments in their walk with God. The content of the weekend focuses on God's grace, how we experience Christ as a friend in the body of Christ, and that we are called into discipleship, giving love to a needful world.
WHAT HAPPENS AT CHRYSALIS?
You will spend three days with other young people in worship, prayer, fellowship, recreation, singing, and discussion. You will experience the love of Christ through the prayers and acts of service by a loving community. You will hear talks given by youth and adults, lay and clergy people. The talks focus on the needs of maturing youth and offering the message of the Gospel and the friendship and example of Jesus Christ. Fifteen talks are given throughout the weekend, each followed by discussion and reflection on how these messages can be helpful to your personal life. You will explore how this friendship with Jesus can help you live your faith with family, friends and the community.
WHAT HAPPENS AFTER CHRYSALIS?
One of the primary strengths of Chrysalis is the follow-up. Your weekend lasts three days, but you are invited to build on it for the rest of your life through:
- Expanding your spiritual life through study and congregational participation
- Becoming more active as a disciple of Christ in the world through your home church
To nurture this discipleship, Chrysalis offers specific opportunities:
- A small "reunion group" that meets regularly to maintain spiritual accountability.
- Community gatherings for fellowship and worship
- Opportunities and training to support and participate in leading the future Chrysalis flights
WHO SHOULD GO ON CHRYSALIS?
Chrysalis is for growing Christians in Grades 10 to 12 and Journey is for those aged between 19 and 24 years who are open to experience the grace and love of Jesus Christ in new ways through the Christian community. More specifically, it is for those potential leaders who will be committed to make a difference as a result of their experience.
